  • Danbury Public Library. "LibraryThing developer Tim Spalding may have warned in LJ four months ago that public libraries were more scared of user-contributed data than academic ones, but he’s found a taker in the Danbury Public Library (DPL), CT." -Library Journal.
  • The Columbus Metropolitan Library currently uses Aquabrowser for their OPAC. Aquabrowser uses LibraryThing data to add cover images and other information. It also give libraries the option of adding tags and reviews. CML does not currently use this function.

• del.icio.us is a social bookmarking site that allows you to bookmark articles, blogs, music, reviews, and more both for you and your friends. You also can check out what other people are bookmarking. The "Tags to Watch" menu features popular tags in areas like medicine, shopping, and technology. The del.icio.us blog provides updates and announcements.

GoodReads.com

GoodReads is another website like the LibraryThing and Shelfari, which also allows users to create an account and manage "book shelves." The user can add books to the shelves and post thier reviews. They can also add "friends" to the account and be informed when new books or reviews are added by those friends to thier own shelves.

SwapTree.com

SwapTree is somewhat similar to a social networking website, except instead of just meeting people to chat, etc. it is a way for people to exchange items such as books, CD's, DVD's for basically nothing.  The trade is free except for the minimal cost of shipping.  The website makes it even more less of a hassle to ship items by creating a mailing label so that you do not have to go to the post office and wait in long lines.  All you have to do is sign up, list the items you want to trade by ISBN or UPC, and then see what items you can get in return.  The website does everything else for you in terms of finding people to trade with.  You can further be part of the community by joining groups or forums of people interesting in the same things as you.
